Yep, that’s right. I am the coolest wive ever. My honey, “Bob the Wizard,” has finally started himself a blog. He’s only owned the domain for like 40 years…yes, that’s right. He has owned Bob the Wizard since before the Internet. That’s how important it was to him. LOL. So anyhow, just this week he renewed his domain name and under much pressure from his work buddies, he finally got the blog up and running. YAY Bob!
He loves Wizards, magic, sci-fi, and fantasy. Hence the online persona he’s given himself. Plus, he’s a wiz at all this computer stuff. See, he’s clever and witty, too! He’s not sure what direction to take his blog at the moment. It will probably be all Sci-fi and gaming/computerese. But he wanted the layout and design to reflect wizardry. He spent a lot of time looking for images that he could use in a header. Most (all) the cool stuff was copyrighted (as it should be!). So there wasn’t anything that we came across that he liked and that we could use. So then he got the brilliant idea of taking a picture of himself and then he wanted to extract his face and put it in a Wizard pic. Well, I decided that that just would not do and went to work creating something for him.
Now, I don’t pretend to be a photoshop guru by any means. But I do pretty well at following tutorials and figuring things out. I tinker until I get it how I like it. Bob and I spent a little bit taking some pictures of him. This is the best of the original pics. Completely unedited:
Yes, he’s wearing my coat! lol! It was the only thing in the house we had with a nice big hood. He felt pretty silly wearing it, too. But we needed it to look all Wizardry.
I went looking through my stash of photoshop tutorials to find how to make it look all dark and magical. I tried several things without any luck. And then I looked at this tutorial on making a Coldplay/iTunes type of portrait. I had seen it before but passed it over because it wasn’t what I wanted. But I went to work on Bob’s image and was quite happy with the way it was turning out!
Then it turned out that Bob thought it would be cool to have a crystal ball. hhhmmmm….ok. So off I went to find a crystal ball and/or hands (since his picture he didn’t have his hands right). Lucky for me, I came across this photoshop action that would make a shiny blue marble. Cool! It would make a perfect crystal ball. Then I just had to find some hands to add and viola! I found an article somewhere talking about synthetic hands. In the article was the perfect picture of hands that I could use to hold Bob’s ball. Get your minds out of the gutter there, people! I referenced one other tutorial that helped me create the bright lights behind the crystal ball and then I was DONE!
Here is what I came up with!
What do you think?? I am really happy with it! Bob is really happy with it (I think). I do still have to modify it a bit because the background on Bob’s template is a dark gray, and it’s not fading seamlessly into it. So I have to adjust the colors a bit. But no big deal, right? Ha! I’ve been trying to fade the bottom now for 2 days and can’t get it right. If you have any tips, I would appreciate it!
So there you have it. I am an awesome wife and make my husband look really cool! If you like all things techie, sci-fi, computers and gadgets, be sure to go check out Bob the Wizard and support his growing website!
