I’m sitting here trying to come up with the words to write a letter. It seems that the Department of Justice wants to dump the violent sexual predator, Matthew Hedge, off in my neighborhood. I’m really pissed about this. There is no way that I can write an effective letter, all I want to do is scream and tell them what a bunch of idiots they are!
It seems this guy, Matthew Hedge (who I will now refer to as “scum bucket”) was convicted of molesting 4 children in 1989 and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. I read in a news story that the children were 2 small boys and 2 pre-teen or teen girls. He’s been in a Department of Mental Health Hospital since 1998. I remember back in 2006 when they wanted to release him from prison. They placed him in a trailer right outside the gates of the prison. Six weeks later, he was returned to prison for violating the terms of his release. Go figure.
Here are the crimes he was convicted of, taken from a 2005 article on ABC News.
“Later, as a young teen he had sex with other boys. It was an appetite he never grew out of. At 26, he committed the first of a series of terrible crimes.
“Left alone with a friend’s two young sons, he molested them both and forced them to have sex with each other.
“I just figured the bottom line was I’m gonna get caught and go to prison for what I did to those boys, so I started just masturbating to thoughts of the boys,” he said.
Hedges would masturbate in his car, often in front of schools so children could see him.
Still on the run, and intoxicated, Hedge was at a friend’s home that had a pool. When no adults were around, he jumped in and fondled two young girls swimming there. (Hedge is one of the 20 percent of child molesters attracted to both sexes.)”
Yeah, I want him as a neighbor. *VOMIT*
They are proposing to let this scum bucket live in a 3750 square foot house, on a hill, with a pool. Why should this scum be living “the life” at tax-payers expense when he committed these heinous crimes?? Why should this scum be allowed to live less than a mile from an elementary school, two day cares and a preschool?! Does this seem even remotely okay to anyone?? Why is it that our legal system allows for this?
I have three beautiful boys. I am so afraid for them. I have been wanting to vomit for a week. Tomorrow we are having a local meeting at our community center. I plan on being there. But in the meantime, I still need to write my letter. Any suggestions? I would really love some advice on how to write an effective letter without just sounding angry and bitter.

Dear Department of Justice,
I would like to take a moment to express my concern for the proposed release of Matthew Hedge into my family’s neighborhood.
I can’t even find the words to express my extreme disgust, anger and fright at the thought of this man being near my children! I have a beautiful four year old and lovely two year old twins. All boys. The thought of this person being able to watch and lust after them from on top of his hill is disgusting.
How can placing a VIOLENT SEXUAL PREDATOR in a very family oriented community be even remotely okay?? How can our justice system allow for this? I thought our justice system was here to protect the innocent? Not provide for the guilty. The government giving this sick man a large home with a pool and view while I struggle to provide for my children just makes me ill.
I grew up in Ramona. I have always felt safe here. We have strong community involvement and lots of children activities. All the children of Ramona come out and trick or treat together at Halloween. All the children of Ramona come together to light the town Christmas Tree. These are the reasons I chose to raise my own children here.
Matthew Hedge could not adhere to the terms of his release while living in the desert next door to a prison. How can you expect him to remain compliant in a community full of children? I beg you to find another solution. This man is your problem, he should not become ours.
