Howdy, howdy. Happy Tuesday! Welcome to my weekly contest/important post linky. Please feel free to link up the cool stuff you got going on at your own blog so everyone can find it. I came across a few things this week that I wanted to share.
Great American Bake Sale
Have you seen the latest report? More than 12 million children in the United States do not know when their next meal will come – that’s 1 in 6 children. Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale is a national effort that encourages Americans to host bake sales in their communities to help end childhood hunger. Bake Sale funds support after-school and summer feeding programs that hundreds and thousands of kids depend on. And even better: the dollars go back to the community that raised them. You can find out more about this effort here: http://www.GreatAmericanBakeSale.org/vgabs .
I think a Bake Sale to help American children in need is a cool idea. I am thinking that I might have one myself. If I do, I’ll let you know. But I wanted to pass along the information in case someone out there might be interested.
Martha Stewart’s “Dreamers into Doers”
I love Martha Stewart but I never get to watch since it conflicts with Dora the Explorer. But she is having a cool contest and I wanted to share part of their press release with you.
Launched in 2007, the “Dreamers Into Doers” program celebrates women who have turned a specific passion into a career, a business or a philanthropic program, just as Martha did more than 25 years ago with her first book, Entertaining.
Beginning today (May 8th) and continuing through July 6, women are invited to submit a 250-word essay and photos showcasing their endeavors at http://dreamersdoers.ning.com/. From these entries, Martha Stewart and her team at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. will select two winners in the categories of non-profit and small business. Winners will be announced on The Martha Stewart Show in October 2009 and will be awarded $10,000 from MSLO.
That’s a mighty nice $10,000 prize!
Finally, there has been a lot of buzz recently about the Nielsen Company’s recently published list of “50 Influential Bloggers.” It seems that a LOT of really powerful bloggers and media powerhouses were left off and bloggers are pissed. Personally, I don’t care. I don’t know half of who is on the list and I don’t know who should be. I am still testing the waters and have a long way to go before I become “influential.” Do I even want to be influential? I’m not sure about that yet. But I do know that momdot.com put out their own list, and I do know who the people on that list are. So maybe that should stand for something? A list of bloggers I don’t know…or those I do. Click here for momdot’s list and decide for yourself.
On to your contest! Link up ladies (and gents) if you got something cool you want to share. I don’t even care if it’s a contest. If you wrote a Pulitzer Prize winning post, then share that, too. I’m easy. Have a great week!
