I have three uncles who have now passed away but they all served our country abroad at different times. One even died in berlin while at war. He was only 19 years old it was very sad. We have letters he wrote home they are about coming home to be with his family and helping my grandfather on the farm. Sadly he never made it home to do so. He is burried in east Berlin. My mom wrote to the government and got a picture and plot number where her brother was burried. I cant imagine how difficult this must have been for my Moms family.

48 Carol G July 9, 2009 at 6:54 am

I would love to try the Chocolate Mousse Torte Cake–it looks delicious.

49 Carol G July 9, 2009 at 6:58 am

Military service is a tradition in our family. My husband was a Marine, I was in the Navy Nurse Corps, my brother, an uncle and several cousins in the Air Force. In this generation, the children of my cousins are also in the military and have served several tours in the Middle East. I am proud of every one of them.

I have a close family friend in the military. He’s actually Special Forces so we don’t get to hear a lot about what they do. Things are very hush hush. When he’s in Iraq, we hear about it when he gets back. It’s tough on his family but everyone is very proud of the exceptional job he’s doing!

I don’t have a family member serving, but I have “adopted” a soldier through a network that set up individuals to send care packages to soldiers who don’t normally receive much mail. My soldier is serving in Iraq.

THe S’more Brownie Cake looks awesome!

249 Auriette July 19, 2009 at 9:45 pm

The Peanut Butter Mousse Cake sounds sinfully good. The Freedom Cake also sounds good, and I love that it’s a way to also send a treat to someone serving overseas.

250 Auriette July 19, 2009 at 9:47 pm

My dad was in the U.S. Navy for 28 years, 11 months. He spent long months away from home, not in a war zone thankfully, but he served on submarines most of my childhood. He was stationed overseas. Once in Spain, where I was born, and once in Scotland.

The Double Fudge Crunch Cake (prize) sounds divine – and so do so many of their other offerings. I think the Tiramisu Classico Cake sounds especially tempting.

261 Dddiva July 20, 2009 at 12:36 pm

One minute it is the coconut cream the next the tiramisu and most likely I will keep flip flopping and if I keep looking I will be drolling all over my keyboard.

262 Dddiva July 20, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Andy is in the Marines and stationed in Japan with his family but he was called for another tdy to Korea while they are having problems so we worry but it is nice since his wife and kids got to come home for a visit.
