Did you see the story on the Today Show this morning with the adorable little 7 year old that decided to take off in his parents car to protest going to church?
Here he is all smiling and waving on camera. His parents are laughing and joking.
Am I the only one completely annoyed at this? If that was my kid I would have KICKED HIS ASS!
“Oh, I got grounded for 4 days and couldn’t play any video games.” But I sure got to take a fancy trip to New York City and be on TV! YAY me!
What kind of message is this sending that little boy?? I think that the story was an important one. Maybe it should have been used to highlight this very real danger and inform parents on how to prevent it from happening. This boy could have killed someone, or himself! Not made into a big happy fest of giggles and pats on the back.
Where were the parents when their kid took off out of their driveway in their car? He took off and went on a 7 mile drive, blew through 2 different stop signs, caught the attention of police officers who then chased him back home. The dad wasn’t even wearing any pants when the boy came blasting through the front door and down to the basement to hide!! They had NO idea that their kid was even gone! That’s just crazy to me.
Now, I’m not trying to pass any judgment on these people…well…maybe just a little. For sure, one of my boys will do something like this. But I can say that I “think” I would notice my kid taking off in my car and driving away…just sayin’.
And when this does happen to me…because it will…I certainly won’t fly them on a plane to a big fancy city to stay in a hotel and be on television. Because that stuff is “fun” and my boys would not even be thinking of having fun for a very very very long time!

I agree totally. I saw it this morning and was amazed that the parents made light of the entire situation where many people could have been seriously injured or killed. The kid didnt even truely remember how he was able to drive the car due to his small size… it obviously looks like no lesson was learned in this household.
Try telling this to my sister, whom I love dearly, who let’s her 5-year-old start her car. I keep trying to tell her not to let him but she sees no harm in it. I sure do.
If this had been my child, he would have had a difficult time sitting for a long time.
I say the consequences should always match the crime. I think his punishment was way too light. I have grounded my children for an entire week for a lot less than this~! I would of thought that since he told the officers he didn’t want to go to church then maybe since a lot of them hold services 3 or more days a week that he should of been made to attend all services for the next 3 months along with washing the car every week so he can think about it each time he is washing it.
Wow. I hadn’t heard about this one. This is the sort of news that should be reported quietly with a sigh, and perhaps shaking of heads, to warn families. Why DO we reinforce these things with undue media attention? Incredible.
Geesh My kids would not only be able to sit comfortably for along time they would be grounded until doomsday. I would make sure he went to church everytime the doors where open. Thank God no one was hurt.
