The grading system in elementary and middle school is stupid if you ask me. Whatever happened to the regular A's, B's, C's and so on? Their either "Above Grade Level", "Proficient" or "Below Grade Level" according to the school's grading system now days. Or some school do one better with "Advanced", "Standard" or "Below Standard". I don't know - it just makes you feel like the teachers think your child is just kind of "regular". I know it's not the teacher's fault because they don't make up the grading names (or maybe they do?), but I do know that my son's teachers thru the years have told me that the State has made teaching so much harder for them because they have raised the standards and expect more and more from the kids. The teachers have to cram in all of the school work in a short amount of time and the kids just aren't getting it. Thus the reason a lot of our kids are "average" according to our States learning policies. I think all of our kids would get "Above Standard" or better if the schools were able to go back to the way teaching and learning was 20 years ago and give the kids the time it takes to learn each subject. Sorry for babbling, but my poor son has gotten so far behind in math because of the new teaching standards that he'll never catch up without hours and hours of tutoring. But don't worry, if your son is where he is supposed to be academically at this age, then he'll do fine, because they expect a lot even from kindergarteners. I totally understand what you mean!
