First Mandatory Entry
Tell me about your favorite childhood toy that you remember receiving as a holiday gift. Mine was a simple easel chalkboard that I got when I was about 7 years old. I learned later that our family out here in CA had sent my parents money to help with our Christmas in Oklahoma since we were having a hard time making ends meet. I sure am thankful for family and if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have this memory.

I remember the year I received a baby doll and stroller. I thought that stroller was the best thing ever! It was so “fancy” with its canopy top.

Man, hard to say! The year I got a cabbage patch kid was awesome, but I vividly remember how excited my brother and I were when we got a Nintendo (the original one!) too!
My favorite childhood toy that I remember receiving as a holiday gift was a LEGO set from my grandparents.
My favorite gift was a Mickey mouse calculator. It had a handle and everything . Can you imagine ????? a calculator made me so happy !

My favorite was my Canopy Bed. My sister and I each got one that year. It was so pretty! White metal frames, with pretty pink flowery and princess bedding! My mom still has the beds in her storage room at her house.
One of my favorite Christmas presents was getting the Barbie Townhouse! God, I still remember turning the corner of the hallway into the family room where the xmas tree was standing and there IT was – my own Barbie Townhouse! It was almost as tall as I was at the time (I think I was 6 or 7) and I played with it for HOURS every day. That was one of my best Christmases ever!
I think every Christmas growing up was my favorite! My parents always made sure my brother and I had everything we wanted and more. I don’t know how they did it on their salaries (dad a teacher and mom a director of a non-profit agency) but every Christmas morning we would run into our parents room VERY early ready to start opening presents. Well, my parents would usually have us get in their bed for about 45 minutes (until it was a more suitable hour!) and then my dad would tell us to wait there while he went to make sure Santa had come and left our presents. Basically, what he was doing was turning on the xmas tree lights and a lamp so he could take pics of us opening our gifts. Then he would come back in his room and tell us it was ok to come out now, that Santa had left. My brother and I would slowly walk down the hallway and when we reached the corner and turned into the living room, the tree was all lit up and it just seemed to sparkle! There were always at least 3 gifts each unwrapped that were from “Santa”. I swear, it always looked like there were stars surrounding the gifts from Santa! It’s hard to explain, but my parents really did their best to make it magical for us and I’ve tried to do the same for my children. My eldest, who is 12, just told me this year that he used to get the same feeling as I did on xmas morning when he was younger, and that made me the happiest mom on the planet! Even though I’m a single mom now and money is tight, I’m still trying to make it magical for my 4 year old daughter. I would give anything for her to experience the magic and joy that I did as a child!
One of my favorite presents was a Teddy Ruxpin talking teddy bear. He was soooooo cool–until my mom accidentally knocked him off my bed and broke the top of his mouth off. Then he looked creepy….
I also enjoyed the scooter I got for Christmas one year…until I had this BRIGHT idea to try and ride it with no hands, like I did my bike, going down a huge hill. Let’s just say I spent several days picking rocks out of the left side of my body and face and laying on a sheet on the couch so I wouldn’t get blood everywhere. ? Yes, these are my GOOD childhood memories!
I remember getting a way cool keyboard in 3rd grade. I have many fun memories and remember locking myself up in my room and playing with it for hours!
I hope that I am able to create memorable Christmases for my boys. The holidays are such a special time.
I also remember the year that I really wanted a crimp and curl cabbage patch. I wanted one SO bad, and I didn’t get it. My cousins got them and I remember being so sad that Christmas as I watched them play with their new dolls.

We decorated our Christmas tree yesterday! It is our tradition to decorate the weekend after my daughter’s birthday. We put on Christmas music, make hot chocolate (with plenty of marshmallows!) and decorate. It’s fun to see all the handmade ornaments the kids have made over the years.

I look forward to Christmas Even when we make and decorate sugar cookies. We spend most of the morning doing that so the kids can give out the cookies as gifts to family the next day.
