Have Summer Fun With A Backyard Safari!
One of my favorite things about having boys is their crazy sense of adventure. Boys have the ability to build a castle out sticks or fight sea monsters on the slip and slide. They are constantly on the go and ready for anything. My boys also have a healthy love of critters.
eek!
We were fortunate to be introduced to Backyard Safari Outfitters.
Backyard Safari Outfitters equips young explorers with all the essential field gear they could possibly need for scoping out local “wildlife,” from insects in the grass to birds in the sky to frogs in a pond – and more!
All of my boys think nothing of picking up spiders or putting pincher bugs in each others pants! I don’t want to transfer any of my own spider fears onto them, but I also want them to be careful. Not all spiders are “nice.” One of the items we were sent to check out was the Bug Vacuum.
The Bug Vacuum is really cool. It is exactly what it says it is. A gentle vacuum to suck up all the creepy crawlies that you can find. It’s especially useful for getting an up close look at bugs that might otherwise be dangerous. Anthony’s first hunt was for a black widow! Before you freak out, I did not let him go hunting for black widows. He did however, go hunting for ant’s. Now the Bug Vacuum sucked up ant’s, but also dirt and rocks, too. Leave it to Anthony to break the new toy right out of the box! Luckily, Bob was able to clean it out and it kept right on sucking. The boys had a great time searching out creatures to examine and the built in magnifying glass made them really easy to look at. For added fun, the Bug Vacuum can attach to the Bug Habitat (sold separately) and then the kids can keep and learn from their bugs. The Bug Vacuum is for ages 5 and up, and retails for approximately $19.99.
Then the boys got to play with the Land and Water Mega View Periscope. This is a full view periscope that extends up to four feet! It’s perfect for peering around corners, over boulders and over bushes. We have a birdhouse that has been home to several little bird babies this season. Anthony had a great time using the periscope to peer into the house. Of course, it was empty, but he was still very excited to have a chance to look inside without disturbing the sparrow family. The Mega View Periscope is also submersible for under-water viewing. How much fun would your kids having looking at the fish under the boat? The Mega View Periscope is for ages 5 and up and retails for approximately $24.99.
Now what would any outdoor safari be, without the proper attire? The Backyard Safari Cargo Vest is a well made piece of adventure gear and essential to any explorer. It’s full of pockets and D-Rings to hold all the needed gear. The boys have been having a great time wearing it around, sticking rocks and other treasures in the pockets. The Cargo Vest has a generous fit and fits my very tall 5 year old (who wears a size 8 ) just as well as my average sized 4 year olds. It’s not as easy to find “dress up” clothes for boys as it is girls so we really love this piece of clothing. The Cargo Vest is for ages 5 and up and retails for approximately $19.99.
Backyard Safari Outfitters is available now at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, and Target.
